Glossary
- Checking
- fine cracks on the surface of a die which produce corresponding raised veins on die castings. Caused by repeated heating and cooling of the die surface by injection molten alloys.
- Cold chamber machine
- a type of die casting machine in which the metal injection mechanism is not submerged in molten metal.
- Combination die
- a die having two or more cavities, each producing a different part (see multiple cavity die).
- Core pin
- a pin, usually of circular section, which has some taper (draft), used to form a hole in the die casting.
- Creep
- the plastic deformation of metals held for long periods under stresses less than the normal yield strength.
